KEY FEATURES
iCloud & IOS Integration: Users select their digital inheritors via your existing contacts list. Inheritors would not need to have an iPhone, but would need to create an iCloud account to access the digital legacy data. As pictured below, the application would also allow users to determine when their selected legacy contact is notified of their digital inheritance status.
Privacy Matters: Each legacy inheritor receives a unique pin that will be utilized to access the select data once the core user has passed on. The user can then select what data & content is passed on, as well as which data will be removed once they pass.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Using Instagram, I set up a poll for a group of 65 users to respond to concerning how they would want their digital legacies to be handled. Based on the user results, I developed an app that would be integrated / bundled into the Apple IOS core applications.
Case Study References
In 2016, the discussion of digital legacy began when Canadian Citizen Peggy Bush sued (and won) a lawsuit against Apple Inc., to obtain her husband’s password in the aftermath of his death.
In the aftermath, some companies, like Facebook, took notice of the importance that digital data carried for modern day citizens across the globe. In 2017, they launched a “legacy contact” feature.
